Using cardboard and any other recycled materials at home, design and make a game that would suit an arcade
Specifications:
It can only be made from recycled materials ie cardboard, plastic bottle tops, milk bottles
It must have a clear purpose so the user can easily see how to win points/play your game
For this weeks competition you will be submitting three parts:
An inspiration board
Conceptual drawing your idea (drawing or 3d model)
Photo of your finished outcome
Read below for more details about each of these parts
Create an inspiration board
Do some research about arcade games. Collect images to inspire your design, these could be real games or ones made from cardboard and make a google doc or google slide. What key attributes (physical and function features) to they have that you like? List them on your document. This will help you with your design
You will be submitting this as part of your final outcome
Below are two examples of inspiration boards:
Gather Your Materials
One of the constraints to your design will be the materials and resources you have available at home. This creates a great challenge to think about how you can reuse what you already have to invent something new
Start with a sturdy box. This could be a plain cardboard box, shoe box or cereal box and gives you the dimensions to start with. Look in your recyclables for things that could be used for obstacles, paddles or added as decoration.
Draw your design
Once you have collected materials then draw a design for your arcade game.
You could use pencil and paper, jump onto Tinkercad and create a 3d model or use any drawing software you have available
You will be submitting your conceptual drawing as part of your entry for the competition.
Now its time to make!
It's ok if your final outcome looks a little different from your original plan. While you make your outcome you will be testing and improving on this first idea. Use a pencil to mark out where you will be cutting or gluing things to help you make sure it will be successful
Test! Keep testing to make sure moving parts of your arcade game work before moving on to the next bit. Make it work....and then make it better
